Grillwetter?
24 05 2010Es herrschen Rekordtemperaturen hier in North Ontario, die im Mai zuletzt vor 60 Jahren erreicht wurden. Um 13 Uhr zeigt das Thermometer schon 33 Grad Celcius im Schatten an – gefuehlte Temperatur 45 Grad. Ich bin mittlerweile so braun gebrannt, wie ich es schon seit Jahren nicht mehr war, ich „verbrenne“ nicht einmal mehr. Man haelt es draussen kaum aus und Noreen kommt mit dem Eistee machen kaum hinterher … jede noch so kleine Briese wird genossen.
Eigentlich ist es zu heiss um zu grillen – dennoch kommen Pie Penny und Big Bob zum Grillen vorbei. Immerhin ist May Run Weekend und BBQ ist Pflicht. Start 14 Uhr – Abendessem 18 Uhr. Das Fleisch hat eben auch „kanadische Ausmasse“ und braucht etwas laenger. Ich mache zum 2ten Mal seit ich in Canada bin deutschen Kartoffelsalat, obwohl ich Kartoffelsalat nicht einmal mag, doch ich weiss wie er „schmecken soll“ und er gelingt ganz gut. Zum ersten Mal erwische ich festkochende amerikanische Kartoffeln! Dazu gibt es noch Veggie-Spiesse, die hier Shish Kabob genannt werden. Pie Pennys Hund Brandy spielt nebenbei mit ihrem Lieblingsball – einer 10 Pound Bowlingkugel. Ich ziehe die in Flip-Flops steckenden Zehen ein …

I am jealous. I could go for a bowl of your famous german potato salad. 🙂 It is sooooooo hot here. We are setting all time records for high temperatures too. Hope it hold up for 5 more days. We are now harvesting hay. Where are the woofers when you need one? Or two with all the hay. 😉 Then it can be free to rain and be cool. I have the terrible farmers tan. Not sure I would be mistaken for a kazikstan criminal again. Maybe a mexican instead. :O I like the bear pictures too. Black bears are nice. Just watch out for the grizzly bears. Stay safe and cool.

I would head down to wwoof at your farm (make a potato salad, help with the hay, take Buster for a walk …) but I already booked a flight out West to see the Grizzlies … I promise to call when I am close on my way back to stop by and make a salad & spaetzle ;o Ever been in BC? If you need a hay-break let me know, I will be in the Vancouver area for a few weeks.
I hope the weather stays sunny till your finished – here we had thunderstorms and a lot of rain but it is getting better. Take your shirt off to get rid of the farmers tan ;o

I took off my shirt and worked in the garden in the morning and harvested hay the rest of the day. I no longer have a farmers tan. I am now a lovely shade of Fire Engine Red. 😉 WOW my back and belly are on fire! I will for sure look like a mexican now when the red turns to tan. I will not be able to fly to Canada until after November. Too much work. This week I worked 104 hours. I am now celebrating the long week being over with a Russian beer called Baltika. It is very good. Good news though, dad and I finished the first half of the harvest. Now all we need is one more 4 day stretch of hot weather to finish the other half and the first round of harvest will be complete. Then only 2 more to go. woohoo. Hope all is well. I must now leave my sauna like bedroom upstairs and go sit infront of the air conditioner in my room. It was 98 degrees in the direct sun today. Have a great week!

I guess the lovely fire engine red turned into a criminal looking tan meanwhile? Enjoy your weekend, recover from all the work and have lots of Baltikas ;o) I hope the weather stays as you need it to finish the second half of the first harvest!
